It is with great displeasure that I have been forced to shut the comments off for the time being add a new requirement (Captcha) to posting comments. My spam filter from Akismet has been amazing from day one, until recently. (Continued at bottom)
Now that the office building on Block 37 has officially been topped out, I have a better understanding of what my diminished view has become. Vastly different than my view just six months ago (snapshot below). It is still a nice view to have, and as an added bonus, I can now see if Walgreen’s on Washington Street is open without having to go downstairs. Alas, with my pending move to NYC, I won’t see the completion of Block 37 from these windows. Whoever ends up buying my home, will hopefully appreciate it as much as I have. BTW, Marshall Field Bldg (Macy*s) is on the right.
(Continued from top) They (Akisment) have been efficiently blocking upwards of 300-500 spam comments a day, with one slipping through once or twice a month. Unfortunately, the spammers have been in high gear recently, and looking at the stats at Akismet, it is clear to see that there has been three times the spam captured per day in the last week than there was on an average day just a few months ago. The recent spike has resulted in about 1500-1800 spam comments a day, of which I am getting more than 20 that are actually getting posted. They have a new technique of not putting a link in the comment, and not linking their name back to a website, which basically means they are just being a nuisance and wasting the time of countless people. To me, spammers are doing the work of the Devil, and I do not understand how they benefit from this. But I suppose all it takes is the one idiot in ten million, that clicks through and believes that you can get something for nothing.
Regarding Captcha, sorry for the inconvience, but feel free to test it out, and please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any troubles with it. Send me an email: iconeon [at] yahoo [dot] com
