About Looper:
Looper was originally launched at the end of January 2005 as nothing more than a place to present the results of my photographic interest. I have had other sites in the past, but to be honest nobody ever visited them.Different than my previous sites, this site is a photoblog (a regularly updated chronological web log aka blog) of recent work. There is a community of photobloggers and the combination of regular updates, and interaction with others, help to keep the site fresh and my interest sustained.
The frequency of my photoblog updates will vary, sometimes it’s every day, sometimes every few days, and occasionally I take a few days off, while I look for fresh inspiration will be approximately once a week as long as I have enough readers to support the site. For a look at my current work, see my New York site: 24gotham
About Me:
My name is Devyn Caldwell; I am a resident of Block 58, in the epicenter of the famed Loop in Chicago, Illinois New York City as of July, 2007. I had always held a fascination with the urban core and always thought about how nice it would be to go downtown on weekends and take a few pictures. Well, that never happened. However, after moving to the Loop in 2003, I was immediately surrounded by the second most urban spot in the country, and I couldn’t wait to go out and shoot as many pictures as possible.
Having always had an artistic streak, I have done everything from painting to mixed media works. But I never found that I stuck to one thing, and living amongst the mess in my apartment was too much. While I have always held an interest in photography, but never had the financial means or desire to pursue it as a hobby. That is until digital changed everything. I have only been taking pictures since 2003, but in that time, I have amassed more than 30,000 images of the city, mostly in and around the Loop. It was pointed out to me that as I continue to amass thousands of images of downtown Chicago, I am in my own small way… Creating a collective snapshot of life in the heart of the city, at this point in history, which may benefit others in the future. I have yet to take a class, and still have a lot to learn about how to use the camera, but I am having a lot of fun learning, and I can see my images getting better all the time.
Although I am not a photographer by profession, I have done commercial commissions and assignments, and can be available for such services. If you see an image that you like, they are available for purchase.
Equipment
As of 12/25/06, I am using a Nikon D80 with a Nikkor 18-135 mm F3.5-F5.6G ED Lens (Yippee!!!). Previously, my most used camera was a Panasonic Lumex FZ30 Zoom. Before that I had a number of Olympus cameras. I have generally been a point and shoot person, but as I learn to use my equipment more and more, I am learning the value of forethought in an image. I don’t generally alter images much, but occasionally, I will tweak the color a bit, change it to black and white, or some other digital trick, but usually, what you see is what I took.
All images on this blog were taken by and are the property of Devyn Caldwell, unless otherwise noted or credited.
