Sitting at IBM Plaza on Sunday afternoon, I noticed the distinct gap between the two massive slabs of granite that make up the bench parallel to the main planter. True to form for Mies, everything is lined up perfectly on a grid which ties into the same grid as the building itself. And while the two slabs may appear as one long bench, they are indeed separated by a gap.
