301 W. Taylor has long fascinated me. A relic of the industrial past, it stands with it’s two stacks (which pair nicely with AT&T and the Sears Tower) alone in a railroad yard next to the river. Owned by the National Railroad Passenger Corp (who are they?), it is as best as I can determine, a coal fired steam plant. Not sure if it is a back-up system, or has been mothballed, but interesting to me none the less. I was only able to find a few facts about it on the EPA website.
