Completed in 1968 for Blue Cross-Blue Shield Illinois, 55 W Wacker is a fine example of brutalism (an acquired taste of which I can find to be quite delicious) from the 1960s. It is all about textures with it’s massive columns finished in rough grooved concrete, and the horizontal components being finished in smooth concrete of the same color.
I want to thank all of you for the very warm out pouring of support on my recent announcement that I will be following my dream (finally) and moving to New York City (at the end of June). This was by far my most commented post, and that combined with the personal emails I received are just amazing. I will be the first to admit that the idea of it all can be daunting, but it is comforting to know that I have the support of my friends, family, and quite a large number of unknown but still valued people (read; you) that stop by each day to check out my latest muse with my camera. Looper remains unchanged until I go at the end of June, and I will keep the site up for at least a year. Perhaps I can even do phantom posts with a few of the thousands of images that never got posted. I leave with more than 30,000 images of my much-loved Chicago (including 20,000 of the Loop alone), and the task of documenting my new home. It won’t be the same; I won’t have the luxury of living in the epicenter of it all, but will have to commute (from close in Brooklyn) to get my shots. But I look forward to new challenges, and new beginnings. I think my work will benefit from it.
