As I near the age of 42 (yes, I really am that old), I have learned that life really is filled with many chapters. Right new a new one is about to be opened for me. So, it is with both joy and sadness that I am announcing (officially) that Looper will be ending soon. (I mentioned there was to be big news.)
Recent events in my life have provided me the opportunity to fulfill a life long dream of living in New York City, and since I have passed upon previous opportunities, this time I simply must go. I cannot explain what the draw to NYC is, but the burning in my heart has been there as far back as I can remember. I simply cannot ignore it.
My job of more than six years is ending next week (5/25), my finances are better than ever (I have no debt!), my condo is being put up for sale (Wanna own a loft in the Loop?), and very recently my relationship of more than two years came to a close (it was the right thing to do). I have reached the point that to stay would simply fill me with more regrets than I already have for not having gone earlier in life. The really hard part; I love Chicago! My past eight years here have been among the best of my life. Leaving (or the thought of) has been incredibly difficult (I will so miss me some Mies), but I take comfort in knowing that I can always return and step back into the life I am leaving. In the mean time, I look forward to visits to check in on my Second City.
That said; there will be a descendant of Looper. I am already working on a new site to go live upon my arrival in early July. How does the name “24Gotham” sound? My focus will be a bit less on architecture (New York is the architectural step child to Chicago after all), and more on the urbanity of it all. I can’t wait to begin my work.
Oh, yeah… The picture above was taken a few years ago from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. You are looking at the Brooklyn Bridge with the Empire State Bldg. in the background. The shot was a happy accident, and has become one of my all time favorite images.
I will write more on this, as the time grows more near, for now, Looper will continue.
