A few of my recent night shots just didn’t fit into other posts, but are in my opinion, post-worthy. The first shot is of the Vietnam War Memorial on Wacker between Wabash and State. The 25-second exposure gives the fountains a very soft feel. Next, I was reminded of Nighthawks when I saw the glowing windows of this Popeye’s Chicken on Wabash. I went to reposition my camera, and the lights were shut off for the night. The red dumpsters all lined up in this short alley on Madison near Michigan were interesting to me, but not to those passing by as I stood there and set up the shot. I had two people ask what I was photographing, and when I told them, they were both like “Ohhhh, yeah, right”, as they rolled their eyes (they couldn’t see what I could see). And finally… Less IS More at IBM Plaza, Mies Van der Rohe’s final commission. I find it truly unfortunate that Mies masterful subtlety is missed by most people, they just don’t get it.
