While LaSalle Street has long been considered the preeminent urban canyon of Chicago, I would argue that Wacker Drive is the newer urban canyon in the city. With the completion of four high-rises in the past six years, the only thing missing is a building at the end. Since the visual end is actually a bend in the river near Harrison, I don’t see that happening soon. The business center of Chicago has shifted to Wacker from LaSalle over the years. Perhaps because it is closer to the train stations serving the wealthy to the north. As for this shot… I wanted to keep the “depths” of the canyon on the dark side to emphasize the canyon effect. Sunlight only hits this space for a short period each day.
