When I left work yesterday, I felt like taking a detour just a few blocks out of my normal path and seeing what I could capture. Well, it turned into an evening of night shots mostly focused the evening rush to get home. As I shot images of trains (both Metra and CTA) filled with commuters, I was reminded of the gratitude I have to be able to just walk home, without having to deal with long commutes on crowded trains. That’s the beauty of it, I am not really in a rush, I can take my time, enjoy this amazing city, and still be home in fifteen minutes or less.
I took similar shots last year, but as with so many other subjects, I am always driven to shoot things again, to get it better. I think I got it better. I didn’t have my tripod with me so that meant that all images I shot had to involve my camera resting on a solid surface to keep it still. I took about 80 shots, and will post a few more tomorrow. The first two were shot from Randolph, and the remaining shots were taken from Lake Street.
BTW, Yes that was my name you saw in today’s Tribune article about the hideous cameras planted atop of Plensa’s Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. After I mentioned them in yesterdays post, I tipped off the Trib, by sending a quick email with links to photos I shot of the cameras (featured both on my page, and on Michael’s page yesterday and also today) to architecture critic, Blair Kamin. Ten minutes later, I had James Janega, a reporter from the Trib, calling me at work for a phone interview. So to those that have found me as a result of doing a search on my name from the article… Welcome, Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy.
NEW DEVELOPMENT! (11:30 AM) I just received an email from the reporter, the cameras have been removed.
