I was at the MCA last weekend to take in the exhibit Massive Change. I was pretty underwhelmed by the exhibit. I felt like I was being preached to for being a bad citizen because I used too much water taking long shower. Both Michael and I felt this had little to do with real design, other than ideas, and almost nothing to do with art. I think this would have been more appropriate at the Museum of Science and Industry, or the Field. As we where leaving, “Why? MCA” was playing in my head.
After the lackluster experience, Michael had to take a call, and I wandered around the front entrance taking pics of the area. Perhaps the best part of the Massive Change exhibit (other than the room of photographs) was the massive change to the appearance of the front steps to the museum. They applied strips to the risers of each step creating a larger image of the exhibit title (and it’s sponsor).
The sponsor of the exhibit, Target. Their logo looks like a saw when seen from an angle.
Ganz Grosse Geister (Big Spirits XL), from 2004, by Thomas Schutte from Germany. These amorphous beings are located to the left of the entrance. I like how ambiguous they are.
I snuck this shot of Pink and Gold, a re-creation of Dan Flavin’s first solo museum exhibition, which was held at the MCA in 1967. It wasn’t until after I took several shots that I found out there is no photography allowed.
This makes me ask the question “Are we there yet?”
