Federal Center is only one of the masterpiece designs by Mies Van der Rohe. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people that walk through it each day don’t get why it would be a masterpiece, and probably never will. Mies’ quote “God is in the details” is exemplified here. The attention to detail is incredible. But, you have to know where to look, and it is missed by most.
The GSA is currently doing restoration work on the buildings (for which I am happy to have my tax dollars go to). This pushes me to be more creative in my photo taking. The shadow is that of the Sears Tower.
The sun shining on the newly renovated Dirksen Federal Building.
Currently it is the Kluczynski Building undergoing restoration. They are repainting the exterior with fresh black paint, and re-sealing the windows.
The reflection of the Dirksen Building as background to the bright red-orange Calder as reflected in the Post Office. I took this image (and a similar one), focusing on the interior lights of the Post Office, the reflection was just extra.
