Random Mondays are back to Monday again (although they may still move). Today’s images were taken this past week, and are really all over the board. I have the week off of work, and I have little intention of getting up early to work on posts. I will still post, but the timing my be a bit wonky.
My first shot is a bit outside of usual subject matter, but I couldn’t resist whipping my camera out of my bag when I saw this man speaking to a banana in Lake View yesterday. He was across the street, and although I couldn’t hear what he was saying, I can only guess he was asking to speak to Chiquita or something. Maybe it was the now ubiquitous “Can you hear me now?” (Thank you Chicagoist for posting this picture!)
Another completely random shot. I was near Wells and Lake last week on one of those dark foggy days. Standing there looking down Lake Street, the city just looked endless with buildings disappearing in the distant fog.
This past Friday morning as I was getting ready for work, I saw a porta potty sailing through the air over Block 37. Fortunately, it was at the end of a cable suspended from a crane. I am sure they check to make certain there is nobody taking a wee wee in the Oui Oui (at least I hope so, but this is Chicago, and these are union workers).
South LaSalle Street between Harrison and Polk is pretty desolate, but this beautiful remnant of the past is still a very used building.
Down the street from the previous shot, is this other lonely building,… I like this shot, the lonely building standing there as it has for at least a hundred years. When standing down in that area, I often try to imagine what the streets would have looked like a hundred years ago, when the streets would have been lined with these kind of buildings. Probably more Manhattan-like than we do now.
“L” platform at the Chicago Ave stop, near Superior Street. I always thought it a bit odd that we have a street named after our city. I am sure there is a story behind it.

I totally love your firescape photo [4th] … the color contrast is also great.
Somehow I’m fascinated by firescapes… and have taken many photos … But I’m never able to take good ones. Few are alright .. but not great!

I saw someone the other day, talking, with his hand in the universal call me gesture: thumb in his ear and pinky near his mouth. But his hand was stationary as though it was actually a phone. At first some people talked to themselves or others who weren’t there. Then people with the earbud phones started appearing to do this. Now some of the first group are trying to appear more respectable, using props for phones.
