It was nearly a month ago since my last installment of Intersections, so I am overdue for fresh content. The weather over the past few days has not made for good picture taking. It is hard to get anything to come out well with gray cloudy skies, but I gave it my best shot. Yesterday I spent some time at Wacker Drive and Wells Street.
Many may remember when this bridge was “slid” into place in May of 2002 as part of the “Revive the Drive - Wacker Drive Reconstruction” project. This bridge spans the entirety of Wacker Drive, instead of having center supports as in the previous one. I like the bridge, however, the view from the “L” train has been somewhat obstructed due to the extra steel required to span the entire drive.
Standing on the NE corner, looking south. I really like all of the activity going on.
From the SW corner looking north across the Wells Street bridge.
Standing on the center island looking east. I took a dozen or more shots from here, but I am not thrilled with the light.
On the SW corner stands the Engineering Building (1928) a nice, yet unremarkable deco building. Because the sky was so gray, I decided to change the image to black and white.
