CNA Plaza (the big red building) is currently undergoing yet another renovation. A few years ago they tore up and reset the granite pavers under the arcade, this time it appears that they are pushing the first floor walls out to the street to turn the arcade into rentable space. I am OK with that, arcades rarely work, and they are usually just a desolate area next to the sidewalk. But I digress…
What caught my eye when I was walking by on Monday was that somebody running the project has a sense of humor. Not sure if it is the construction company or the project manager, or CNA themselves, but it is appreciated. So rare is it that we encounter humor on construction sites, even corny humor, that I found this funny. Because almost the entire arcade is covered in plywood, the entrances are nearly impossible to see without the way-finding signage they put up. This is not where you enter.
I wonder what is under the “Enter Here” sign? Was it a misspelling? Did it say Wabash Street?
Unrelated to the entrance signage, but still interesting to me, are the ventilation openings cut into the plywood for the construction all lined up.
More of the ventilation openings. (I got so fascinated with them)
OK, so this isn’t a pretty picture, but it puts the ventilation openings into context.
