Window washers are among my favorite people. They accept the high risk for small reward, and make people happy when they are done (generally). I know that when the window washers clean my apartment windows, I am always stunned by what I can suddenly see that was obscured by a layer of dirt before. Last week while taking a moment to stare out of my window at work, I saw these guys washing Helmut Jahn’s Citicorp Center (1987) across the way.
It is amazing to see just how fast they are at this. All the while setting aside any fears they may have of dangling on the side of a building on steel ropes.
It took just three people about an hour an a half to wash a 30′ swath top to bottom.
Unfortunately not all window washers are of the same ilk. The window washers at my apartment sit on those little boards on a rope with a bucket. They get washed twice a year (if I am lucky), but quality isn’t high on their list. While they always do look better, they are never fully cleaned.
