Today’s randomness is selected from images taken over the past week.
The first few were shot at the Opening Ceremonies of Gay Games VII on Saturday evening. This was my first visit to Soldier Field (I never got to see it before the space ship landed), and I must say that even though I don’t feel this is the best marriage of old and new, the new was quite nice. This shot was taken as we arrived late, rushing to our seats.
The first hour of the event involved loading 10,000+ athletes onto the field.
Once they were finally loaded onto the field, we got to experience one of the few highlights of the evening. All the lights went out, and the athletes held LED lights in the air to create a rainbow flag. (For a recap of the less than stellar evening, read Michael’s take.) This was the last image I was able to eek out of my camera as the battery gave up. (Which is why this isn’t a post on it’s own.) Due to a bout of poor judgment, I didn’t take the time to go stop back home to pick up my backup battery when I had the chance. So I only got about ten pictures of the entire event.
Now back to the randomness… Macys has been doing a lot of sprucing up of the State Street Store in preparation for the re-naming in less than two months. They have been power washing the facade in the middle of the night. The corner of Washington and Wabash is stunningly bright and clean.
State Street at about 1:00 AM on Friday morning.
This has always been one of my favorite places at the Art Institute. The hall connecting the north (modern) wing with the older section. On Saturday, the sun was shining in, and the light was just beautiful.
